What an amazing voice. As an Orioles fan living on the east coast, I rarely got to hear him announce, but even in those few chances I did, I cherished listening to him.

Doesn’t matter who you were a fan of, Scully was the man. He’s gonna be missed in that booth. I don’t envy whoever they find to replace him because it is hard to replace greatness.

Oh I got that, I just didn’t know he was still working. I thought he’d retired a long time ago. We should all be so lucky to be able to work in our chosen fields for so long, and retire when we’re darn good and ready.

So calling baseball games isn’t curing cancer or negotiating world peace but if the rest of us were as good at our jobs as he was at his it would be a far, far better world.
